WHY DONATE?
The Wildlife Research Foundation is committed to supporting wildlife research from the Rusty Black Bird to the Black Bear.
The Black Bear is one of the most intriguing large mammals in North America, known for its elusiveness, unique behavior and, of course, family structure.
Maine’s study of Black Bears is among the best in North America, and the state’s research monitors the largest Black Bear population in the continental United States, protects critical habitat, and assures that bears and humans coexist in harmony as their living space continues to overlap.
As Maine’s research continues to grow, the nation is taking notice. Black Bear biologists Jennifer Vashon and Randy Cross are among the most respected in their field across the nation, serving on technical committees and working groups that help other states address their own Black Bear concerns.
Wildlife Research Foundation is dedicated to making sure that the Black Bear biologists at the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife have the best technology and the latest innovations in wildlife management at their disposal. Wildlife Research Foundation knows that where Maine’s Black Bears succeed, so, too, do the rest of the nation’s bears.
Funds to provide updated equipment for winter den studies, including new GPS collars to better track the annual movements of bears and their cubs, computer software and outdoor gear is necessary. Our goal is to provide advanced technology that is available to be utilized for the enhancement of the study of Black Bears. That technology is essential to better understand all we can about one of North America’s most valued creatures.
Your donations to Wildlife Research Foundation will ensure that Maine’s Black Bear researchers remain the nation’s elite and what they learn can be applied to Black Bear populations across the country. The more we can learn about Black Bears, the better it is for the bears and for those of us who live with them.
The Wildlife Research Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Your donation is tax deductible as allowed by law.
